Security Briefs: Week Ended 05 April 2024.
Zamfara State:
On 29th March 2024, report has it that troops in Northwest, in an operation conducted in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State successfully raided the den of a notorious terrorists’ kingpin, Hassaan Yantagwaye, neutralizing three of them and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition and destroying the terrorist camps.
- On 03rd April 2024, suspected bandits killed businessman Alhaji. Ashiru Nagoma and abducted his wife and neighbour in Bulunku Quarters, Gusau, the Capital of Zamfara State. The bandits also attempted to kidnap a couple at the second house, but the husband begged them to spare his wife because of her condition but left with him.
Katsina State:
On 29th March 2024, information has it that gallant troops in Northwest engage in fierce gun battle with terrorists in Shawu Kuka, Shinda, Tafki, Gidan Surajo, and Citakushi in Kabai I, and Kabai II WITHIN Faskari LGA Katsina State neutralizing eight, recovered 3 locally fabricated guns, military uniforms and large quantity of grains
- On 3rd April 2024, bandits released children hours after abducting 30 people, the majority of whom were children. Report has it that while collecting firewood for cooking in the bush at Kasai village in Batsari LGA of Katsina State.
Borno State:
- On 02nd April 2024, report has it that, Borno State command police arrest 8 0ver killing of UNIMAD Lecturer Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal, who was murder Sunday evening in his office.
- On 05th April 2024, police command of Borno State has paraded four individuals accused of attempting to set fire to the Mafa IDP camp in the Mafa LGA along their alleged sponsor Babagana Umar 40-year-old.
Benue State:
On 02nd April 2024, two people were killed, houses were set ablaze, and individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the clash between Tiv and Jukun in a communal clash at North Bank, a neighbourhood within the Makurdi metropolis of Benue State.
- On 3rd April 2024, the report has it that 5 villagers were feared killed by armed assailants in an attack on the Adija community in Apa LGA of Benue State.
- On 3rd April 2024, hoodlums looted residents who fled the communal crisis at the North Bank vicinity of Makurrdi metropolis in Benue State.
Kaduna State:
- On 02nd April 2024, armed bandits suspected to be kidnappers abducted 5-day-old baby, mother and eight other people at Azzara village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna Sate, report has it that on the 05th March, 2024, bandits invaded Azzara and abducted 11 people including a woman, but the victim were reportedly rescued by troops at Rijina forest that borders Kaschia and Kagarko LGA of the state.
- On 03rd April 2024, report has it that brigands have raided 8 villages, killed 2 people, rustle 128 cows in Kachai, LGA of Kaduna State. Spokesman of Kaduna State Command, SP Hassan Mansur did’t pick or reply to a text message sent to him on the incident.
- On 4th of April 2024, information indicates that 289,375 persons displaced in Kaduna with over 551 communities across 12 LGA have been affected by banditry, in a statement issued by Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) while flag-off of palliative distribution in Maraban Kajuru LGA of the State.
- On 5th April 2024, armed bandits have launched fresh attacks killing 7, and abducting 13 family members in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State, report has it that the bandits came in their large numbers and shot dead the Mai Anguwa of Gashe community, Mr. Philibus Andrew and abducting 13 members of the community.
- On 05th April 2024 the Kaduna Police Force in collaboration with the members of Vigilante Group have raided the Sabon Tasha community and arrested 10 suspected thugs in their hideout.
Ondo State:
- On 02nd April 2024, yet to be identified soldier accused of stabbing a trader to death, the trader identified as Ebuka at the Arakale market in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Sadly, Ebuka who tried to intervene in the disagreement was stabbed in the stomach with dagger by the soldier.
Bauchi State:
On 02nd April 2024, suspected killer of a policeman’s son, Christopher Bala, (12) nabbed, identified as Rabi’u Adamu (20) was apprehended after collecting ransom of 200, 000 naira from the victim’s father, ASP BalaYarima.
- On 02nd April 2024, the Bauchi State police command arrested one Isyaku Babale (30) for allegedly stabbing his biological elder brother at Anguwa Dawaki area of Bauchi Metropolis.
- On 4th 2024, A garden egg seller by name Sanusi Umar was arrested for sodomising a mentally ill boy, the suspect lured the minor with N30 sweets and asked him to accompany him to an isolated area behind AIB filling station along Kofar Ran of Bauchi State.
Lagos State:
On 02nd April 2024, the Police in Lagos State arrested a 10-year boy, Ezekiel Evbota, for allegedly strangling his friend, Israel Ogunleye to death in the Ejigbo area over a disagreement while playing football around 5pm on Good Friday.
- On 04th April 2024, 3 suspected kidnappers nabbed, waiting to collect N150m. Directives from Zone 2 Police Command have arrested three suspects among whom is a 64-year-old driver, Kwasi Samuel over the kidnapping of 10-year-old boy from his parent’s residence in Millionaires Estate in the Oniru area of Lagos State.
- On 05th April 2024, A Federal High Court in Lagos remanded 25-year-old Nwobi Olubube and her mother Nwobi Ebele Angela (55) for allegedly using two underage girls as domestic servants.
Niger State:
On 02nd April 2024, a Magistrate Court in Kontagora LGA of Niger State has ordered the remand of a housewife, Amina Abashe, who allegedly poured boiling water on her husband, Shehu Abdullahi.
Kwara State:
On 02nd April 2024, a suspected bike thief reportedly lynched in the Apalara community in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State.
- On 4th April 2024, report has it that 4 died in road accident along the Ilorin/Bode Saadu highway in Kwara State.
- On 4th April 2024, report also has it that 6 children trafficked from Ilorin to Lagos in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State have been successfully rescued from exploitative labour.
Taraba State:
- On 3rd April 2024, report has it that gunmen stormed a student’s hostel located outside the campus around 10.30 pm and abducted the students at Federal University Wukari, Taraba State. Police Public Relations Officer of the University, Mrs. Adore Auwudu confirmed the incident, she identified the two victims as Joshua Sardauna from Economics Department and Obianu Elizabeth Chiwaudan from Microbiology Department.
- On 4th April 2024, three killed, while many others sustained injuries and properties worth millions of naira destroyed following a severe windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall that struck the area twice in Takum town in Taraba State.
Delta State:
On 3rd April 2024, information has it that the 9 abducted students traveling along the East west Road in Ughelli area of the State in a Seinna bus were freed, this was confirmed by the PPRO Delta State Command, SP Edafe Bright.
Plateau State:
On 3rd April 2024, report has it that DSS, Police, and Local Vigilantes in a combined operation killed 16 bandits in their hideout while their informants and two traditional rulers who were alleged to have compromised were later identified and killed in a separate operation in Zurak Campani of Wase LGA of Plateau State.
- On 03rd April 2024, 390 cows worth N300 million were rustled while being tended in communities of Bot, Faranti, Anguwan Abuja, Makada and Wumat in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State. Chairman of Gad Allah Fulani Development (GAFDA) in Bokkos, Saleh Adamu said they have reported the incident to the Sector Commander of Operation Safe Heaven (OPSH) in the area.
- 0n 05th April 2024, Abdulsalam Idris, 300-level medical students of Uni-Jos died in JUTH after allegedly sustaining severe injuries following an assault by a group allegedly led by a fellow student, Fisal Dahiru Ibrahim
Federal Capital Territory (FCT):
- On 03rd April 2024, Gallant Vigilantes and Hunters in a join patrol engaged in gunfire with suspected kidnappers in Yenche-Farakkuti Forest in Kuje area Council of the FCT for which 4 suspected kidnappers were killed, while some fled with bullet wounds, solar panel, cutlasses, mats, ropes and foodstuffs were recovered during the raid. The FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, confirmed the killing in a telephone interview.
- On 04th April 2024, report has that assailant killed an 80-year-old man, Adebola Ezekeil and his wife Abiodun Ezekeil at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), confirming the incident, FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said investigation is ongoing.
- 0n 5th April 2024, Information indicated that FCT herders’ community cried out over killing, detention of members in Tungan Kwasau village, off the Dei-Dei Zuba expressway in Bwari Area Council of the FCT for alleged harassment from the Police, which according to them has led to the killing and detention of its members as well as confiscation of its cattle.
Anambra State:
On 03rd April 2024, report has it that 13 suspected to be rival cultist were gunned down in Anambra State. The Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command was not aware of the killings. The Command said its men arrested a man carrying AK47 rifles in Awada in Idemili North LGA of the state.
Edo State:
On 3rd April 2024, report has it that gunmen have shot dead three persons and injured one in a renewed cult-related fight in Obagie and Esigie communities in Ikpoba Okha and Oredo LGAs of Edo State.
- On 04th April 2024, suspected gunmen killed a retired Police officer, DSP Ineh Donatus in his house by an NNPC pipeline on Agbor Road, Benin City, Edo State
Ogun State:
On 04th April 2024, anxiety has enveloped some areas of Abeokuta, Ogun State, following the killing of Olumide Ifeoluwa, an alleged cult Kingpin and popular area boy.
- On 04th April 2024, report has it that soldiers intercepted a Mazda car with registration number: NRK622 SB carrying 441 packs of Indian hemp weighting 223kg in Mologbede Village in Odeda LGA.
- On 04th April 2024, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command says four persons died, while 40 others were injured in 11 road crashes during Easter Celebration. According to Mr. Anthony Uga, the State Sector Commander of the Corps.
Osun State:
On 04th April 2024, the Western Nigeria Security Network, code named Amotekun Corps in Osun State arrested one Babalola Timothy (35) for allegedly hypnotizing and keeping a 35-year-old married woman hostage after she refused his love advances.
Nasarwa State:
On 05th April 2024, suspected kidnapper gunned down in Nasarawa, based on a security reports gathered, the suspected kidnapper has been causing havoc and distress to travelers on the Nasarawa-Keffi highway. This was disclosed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police spokesperson.
Kogi State:
On 05th of April 2024, report has it that 13 Obajana Lokoja LGA, auto crash victims moved to Plateau State to their families for burial, this was made know by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kogi State Command.
Rivers State:
On 05th April 2024, the Nigerian Navy nabbed 14 suspects, involved in illegal oil bunkering in an operation in the Elem Krakam community, Degema LGA of River State.
