Security Update: 17 – 21, August 2020.
WEEKLY (17-21 AUGUST 2020) SECURITY UPDATE AROUND NIGERIA FROM THE DESK OF CILIATHEC GUARDS LTD
SITUATION:
YOBE STATE:
- On 17 Aug 2020 Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, abducted a village head of Mashio town in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe state.
KADUNA STATE:
- On 17 Aug 2020, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) deployed 32 Special Forces to Southern Kaduna in a bid to bring peace to the area.
- In the same vain, the Hausa Fulani and Muslim community of the Southern Kaduna demanded Chiefdom in view of the increasing cases of unrest in the area.
- On 20 Aug 2020, five people were killed and another five injured following the fresh attack and reprisal between the Atyab and Fulani communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.
NIGER STATE:
- On 18 Aug. 2020, two persons were sentenced to 22 years jail term by a Minna Chief Magistrate Court II for defiling four minors in an Islamic school.
- On 18 Aug. 2020, two foreign Nationals engaged in road construction in Wushishi Local Government Area of the state were kidnapped by gunmen.
- On 19 Aug. 2020, information received, showed that 3 soldiers and one vigilante were killed by gunmen in Yakila, Rafi Local Government Area of the State, reports states that they were on a mission to rescue a Chinese expatriate and his driver that were abducted, but they lost their lives in an exchange of gunfire with the bandits.
ADAMAWA STATE:
- On 18 Aug. 2020 the Adamawa State command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) paraded 21 suspects with 60.997kg illicit drugs.
KATSINA STATE:
- On 18 Aug. 2020, troops of Operation Sahel Sanity destroyed 12 notorious bandits’ camps in Yobe Baranda community, Batsari Local Government area of the state, during which 3 bandits were killed.
ZAMFARA STATE:
- On 19 Aug 2020, suspected gunmen stormed Gamji village in Bakura Local Government area of Zamfara state and kidnapped two children of former Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, alongside a Civil Defense personnel stationed to guard the residence, one person was also shot dead.
LAGOS STATE:
- On 19 Aug. 2020, information received shows that the police In Lagos arrested a self-acclaimed monarch, his son and three other persons alleged to be the brain behind series of killings and other acts of violence in the area.
NASSARAWA STATE:
- On 19 Aug. 2020, a primary school teacher in Ahwatashi town of Obi Local Government Area of the state was arrested for raping his 15 year old pupil, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be transferred to the state investigation department for thorough investigation.
BENUE STATE:
- On the 19 Aug. 2020, Soldiers of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) nabbed seven suspects in connection with the killing of 13 people over chieftaincy tussle in Ukpogo community of Edikwu District in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
- On 21 Aug. 2020, a couple landed into the police custody over the allegation of child trafficking.
TARABA STATE:
- On 19 Aug. 2020, available information showed that 8 handset snatchers and pickpockets were arrested by the vigilante in Jalingo during a crackdown on criminal elements terrorizing Jalingo main markets and other locations.
BORNO STATE:
- On 20 Aug. 2020, information received showed that Boko Haram fighters loyal to the Islamic state in West Africa Province (ISWAP) killed at least 8 soldiers and injured 3 others in an ambush in Kukawa town in the Northern part of Borno State.
OYO STATE:
- On 20 Aug. 2020, Hundreds of aggrieved youths in Ibadan barricaded roads at the front of the police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan, protesting the escape of a suspected serial killer in Akinyele Local Government area of the state, the Inspector-General of Police deployed additional investigative aids to complement the efforts of the Oyo State Police Command in ongoing manhunt and efforts aimed at re-arresting the suspect.
BAYELSA STATE:
- On 21 Aug. 2020, seven persons lost their lives in Oluasiri community in Nembe Local government area of the state, as two militant groups clashed. The Bayelsa state police command disclosed that investigations was ongoing to ascertain the level of casualties adding that further information would be made available at the end of the investigation.
ABUJA, FCT:
- On 21 Aug. 2020 two persons were arrested over killing in Lanto village, Kuje Area Council, the deceased was a herder who met his waterloo while grazing his livestock, the arrested suspects are still undergoing interrogations.
- In the same vain, the FCT police command arrested an alleged killer of an Abuja-based pharmacist, late Mr. Sunday Chukwujekwu in Gwarimpa, the arrested suspect also confessed to his involvement in armed robbery operations around Gwarimpa and Gudu axis, investigations are ongoing.

Citizens and corporate organizations are strongly advised to exercise caution in their day to day activities including overland travels and report suspected cases to the security authorities.
