Security Update: Week ended 23rd Oct. 2020
Ogun:
• 19th Oct. 2020, Report has it that the police command in Ogun state, declared a suspected notorious cultist identified as Bobo, wanted for allegedly killing an automobile mechanic, Salaudeen Lawal. It was gathered that, the deceased who was called to fix a vehicle which developed a mechanical fault, was accused by the suspects and his colleagues of obstructing the road with the vehicle he was repairing, this led to an altercation between parties, the suspect broke a bottle and stabbed the deceased in his hand and cut one of his veins, he died while receiving treatment.
• 21st Oct. 2020, Ogun state police command says it has arrested a 19year old Babatunde Idris for allegedly killing an automobile mechanic Salaudeen Lawal, in Igbese, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA of the state. The suspect popularly known as Bobo was arrested barely 20hours after he was declared wanted by the police, he confessed to committing the crime, he has been transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.
• 22nd Oct. 2020, The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area Command 1 yesterday explained how some of its officers were attacked by hoodlums, leading to the death of one and another injured. An Assistant Inspector of Customs, Solomon Alagye ,died at Customs patrol base at Oke Ore, Yewa-South LGA of Ogun state.
Lagos:
• 20th Oct. 2020, palpable tension hovers around Lagos state metropolis as suspected members of various secret cult gangs and thugs are said to have hijacked the ongoing #EndSARS protest to unleash terror in various communities in the state, the armed hoodlums trooped out in their numbers in various areas of the state, descended on security operatives as well as civilians.
• 21st Oct. 2020, there was tension following the deployment of soldiers to disperse #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll Plaza in the state, several protesters were allegedly feared dead as gunshots were heard with the soldiers allegedly shooting sporadically into the air in a bid to disperse the protesters.
• In the same vain a hospital in Apapa Area of the state, at least 20 vehicles and the Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA secretariat were set ablaze by suspected EndSARS protesters and hoodlums, Lagoon Hospital at Liverpool in Apapa was said to have been set ablaze after it allegedly rejected an injured protester.
• 22nd Oct. 2020, Amnesty International says at least 56 people died across Nigeria since the EndSARS protest began, with about 38 killed on Tuesday alone, The Rights group said the victims included protesters and thugs allegedly hired by the authorities to confront the protesters.
Gombe:
• 21st Oct. 2020, Report has it that five journalists and several others sustained injuries, after suspected hoodlums dispersed the #EndSARS protest staged by some youths at the outskirts of Gombe metropolis.
Kano:
• 21st Oct. 2020, a Police Command in Kano State confirmed the arrest of one Sale Yusuf, a resident of Ana-driya community in Tundun-wada LGA of the state for allegedly raping a married woman on her way to Falgore village; the suspect waylaid the victim and threatened her with a knife and stick before he had forceful sexual intercourse with her. The suspect would be charged to court after investigation is concluded.
Oyo:
• 21st Oct. 2020, Report has it that, no fewer than two police officers and two protesters were killed in Ojoo area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital while many people were injured on Tuesday when hoodlums set part of Ojoo Police Station, Ibadan ablaze, the fracas started when police approached the protesters to unblock the road in front of their station but the protesters told them it was a national protest against their misdeeds, in their quest to forcefully unblock the road, the police were attacked and that was what led to the crisis which claimed lives.
• 23rd Oct. 2020, two police officers attached to Gbagi Police station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital were on Thursday burnt to death by protesting youths in Abayomi area of Iwo road area of Ibadan, the youths also set the vehicle conveying the policemen ablaze and razed two police stations in Akobo in Ibadan and Iseyin, it was gathered that the pandemonium erupted when a vehicle conveying three police officers killed a young Okada rider around Ibadan-Ife expressway and fled the spot but the youths chased them to Iwo-Road under bridge.
Imo:
• 22nd Oct. 2020, two soldiers were reportedly killed as some protesters set ablaze the Nwarieubi police station in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo state, it was gathered that the situation appeared calm most of the morning and early afternoon, until some angry youths gathered and set the station on fire. The soldiers were killed in the course of dispersing the protesters.
Zamfara:
• 22nd Oct. 2020, suspected gunmen on Tuesday killed 20 people in Tungar Kwana village in Talata Mafara LGA of Zamfara state, it was gathered that the armed men arrived on motorbikes firing at residents after they had blocked several escaped routes in the community, they carted away cattle and many other domestic animals.
Ebonyi:
• 23rd Oct. 2020, it was reported that hoodlums in Abailiki, Ebonyi state Capital yesterday freed eight arrested suspects in police net after setting three police stations ablaze but were repelled in their attempt to break into the Federal Correctional Centre in the city. The freeing of the eight police detainees happened at Ekumenyi police post where they also set some section of the police building and some vehicles ablaze.
Abuja:
• 23rd Oct. 2020, At least one person was feared dead after hoodlums allegedly attacked the Gudu market and stabbed one trader on Thursday afternoon, the market has been shut down and security deployed to the area to keep peace
