Week Ended on 20th November 2020 – Security Update
APC CHAIRMAN’S MURDER AND DAMPENED POLICE ENTHUSIASM
The aftermath of the #ENDSARS protest across Nigeria and brutal and senseless killings of police personnel and destruction of many police stations has had recurring implications on the psyche of many professional and hardworking police officers in the country sacrificing their lives to protect the citizenry. This has led to slow response to reported cases of security threats to lives and properties of citizens as a result of which criminal elements have taken advantage and now operate without fear.
The abduction and subsequent murder of the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, Mr. Philip Shekwo, is one of such unfortunate security incidences. This requires that relevant government agencies and particularly the Police high command to urgently take steps to motivate the police back to work. This can be done by ensuring that the death colleagues’ families are not left in the cold, upgrade of their emoluments in line with current economic realities and general improvement of the work environment among others.
