STATES

SECURITY INCIDENCES.

ADAMAWA

·       On 08th July. 2024, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), intercepted a Chadian, Yves Ahmat Gali, in commercial bus coming from Kano State and found on him a loudspeaker case used to conceal 20 compressed blocks and nine plastic containers of Lound, a strong strain of hemp, weight 5.200kg. The Spokesman of the agency, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest. He said officers on a stop-and-search operation on the Ngurore-Yola Road in Adamawa State and intercepted the suspect.

ANAMBRA

·       On 09th July. 2024, report has it that the Police in Anambra State launched a manhunt for killers of three vigilante in Umuaka Autonomous community. The Commissioner of Police in the State, Aboki Danjuma, confirmed the incident and on a strong hand condemned the attack. 

·       On 10th July. 2024, information has it that five persons were confirmed dead, and six others injured after a trailer crashed into the Eke Awgbu Market in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State. The spokeswoman of the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident, attributing it to brake failure.

BAYELSA

·       On 11th July. 2024, the police authorities in Bayelsa State have arrested an 80-year-old man., Pa Stephe, for allegedly defiling a 10 -year-old girl in Otuokpoti community in Ogbia LGA. The Police Spokesman in the State, ASP Musa Muhammed confirm the arrest. He added, the victim and case file had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

BENUE

·       On 09th July. 2024, armed headers invaded and killed three people, including an aged couple and several others injured in Ikpele community in Agatu LGA of Benue State. The member representing Agatu State Constituency, Godwin Abu Edoh, confirmed the killings, said the situation is worrisome.  Meanwhile, the police spokeswoman in the state, SP Cathrine Anene, said she had no report about the incident.

·       On 11th July. 2024, at least 13 people reportedly killed after armed invaders launched a fresh attack on the Olegomachi community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The Agatu LGA Chairman, Barrister Philip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the attack in Makurdi. The police spokeswoman in the state, SP Cathrine Anene, said she is yet to confirm the incident, but promises to revert.

·       On 12th July. 2024, information has it that the Police in Benue State have confirmed the arrest of three government officials who allegedly stole a Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), transformer in Makurdi, the state capital. The head of Corporate Communications Department at the JED, Dr. Adakole Elijah, named the suspects as Isaac Sambe, Asen Jonathan and Moses Pila but did not specify their positions in the state government.  

DELTA

·       On 10th July. 2024, Report has it that Operatives of the Delta State Police Command killed a suspected kidnapper and arrested three others, identified as Ismaila Umaru (28), Chede Mohammed (18) and Mohammadu Sani (26). The commands spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development. He said one AK-49 rifle was recovered from the suspects.

EDO

·       On 08th July. 2024, operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit Edo State arrested Godwin Appi over the alleged murder of a fresh graduate of the University of Benin (Uniben), Glory Adekolure Idowu, in Ibuzor, near Asaba, Delta State. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect killed other girls in Benin and Delta States.

·       On 08th July. 2024, report has it that the police operatives arrested five suspects, Joseph Raham, Steven Osamua, Devine Okoata, Lucky Emmanuel and Idahosa Omoregbe, over allegations of cultism and armed robbery in Ekpoma, Esan West LGA, and Aduwawa area in Benin. The commands spokesman, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the arrest.

·       On 09th July. 2024, serial killer Akhere Solomon have been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command. The Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the arrest, he said the suspect was arrested during investigation on a case of murder reported by one Samuel via a petition that his brother was shot dead by hoodlums suspected to be cultists.

·       On 09th July. 2024, tragedy struck at Jattu Market in Etsako West LGA which is the largest market in Edo North of Edo State, claiming the lives of four people and leaving many others injured when a tree estimated to be over 100 years old fell during heavy rainfall. Mr. Marvellous Zibiri, Chairman of Etsako LGA, confirmed the tragic event and extend condolence to the families of the diseased and wishing injured persons speedy recovery.

·       On 10th July. 2024, information has it that the operatives of the Edo State Police Command arrested a man, Faruk Obarili, over the alleged murder of one Andrew Osimen (56) in Idumegan Quarters, Uhiole Ekpoma, Ekpoma, Esan West LGA. The State Commissioner of Police (CP), Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect had made a statement and confessed the crime.  

EKITI

·       On 08th July. 2024, suspected gunmen on motorcycle shot dead a woman around the Continuing Education Centre, off NTA Road, in Edo Ekiti. A witness who prefers anonymity said the gunmen came on a motorcycle and attempted snatch the woman’s bag while she was waiting for a means of transportation. The Ekiti State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed and said it was a robbery incident.

ENUGU

·       On 08th July. 2024, information has it that Favour Okenyi, a 100-level female student at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State has been found dead at the back of Eni-Njoku male hostel on the university premises. She reportedly went missing after attending her chemistry practical. The spokesperson of the university, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the incident. He said the university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of the student and extend heartfelt condolence to the family and promise to investigate the cause behind her dead.

IMO

·       On 09th July. 2024, report has it that the Police in Imo State confirmed the murder of three vigilante personnel and has immediately launched a manhunt for the killers of three vigilantes in Umuaka Autonomous Community. The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, condemned the attack. The Commissioner, who expressed sadness in a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Asp Henry Okoye, said the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

·       On 10th July. 2024, operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Imo State arrested suspected leader of syndicate, Joachin Chikaodi Mbonu (42) who owns a drug cartel behind the productive and distribution of deadly psychoactive substances like methamphetamine (meth). 

JIGAWA

·       On 09th July. 2024, information has it that a boat accident which occurred on the Kwalgai River in Jigawa State, claimed the lives of two persons among and another unidentified. The Jigawa State Police Command said it has launched investigation into the accident, citing overloading and powerful waves as primary causes.

KADUNA

·       On 08th July. 2024, report has it that bandits abducted two journalists identified as Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe, reporter of Nation Newspaper and AbdulRaheem Aodu, Blueprint reporter alongside their family members. A family member of one of the victims, Taofeeq Olayemi, confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reach for reaction at the time of filing this report.

·       On 08th July. 2024, the former Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and founder of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans and Needy Foundation (GAWON) Elder Takai Agang Shamang, (79) reportedly kidnapped from his residence in Bikini-Tsoraurang, Manchock, Kaura LGA of Kaduna State. Mrs. Grace Yohannah Abbin, the manager of Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), Kafanchan, also daughter to the victim confirmed the abduction.

·       On 10th July. 2024, armed bandits in large number stormed Dagwarga village and reportedly killed two persons and 19 others abducted in nearby Maraban Walijo in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State, CLG has gathered. A resident of Dagwarga, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubarkar, said the attackers started shooting sporadically, instantly killing Alhaji Danlami Goni and Alhaji Auwalu Bawa.  The Kaduna Police spokesman, Mansir Hassan, yet to respond to calls at the time of filing this report.

·       On 10th July. 2024, suspected bandits reportedly shot dead five soldiers in an ambush and set their truck ablaze in Audu-Jangwan village near Alheri Camp in Kachia LGA along Kaduna-Abuja highway. The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, was yet to confirm the incidents.

·       On 12th July. 2024, bandits shot dead two farmers and abducted four others, including a woman, for allegedly failing to pay the 100,000 demanded from the farmers before they would be allowed to farm this year in Kurutu village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State. A community leader, who prefer anonymity confirmed the incident. The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur was yet to confirm the incident.

KANO

·       On 10th July. 2024, intelligence gathering has it that Police in Kano have Rescued a two and half year-old Amina who was abducted by a neighbour, Zakariya Muhammad (22) in Sabuwar Ganduje area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officers in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the rescued. He said the incident was reported by a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barkin Quarters and the Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, raised a team of Anti-kidnapping Squad directing them to rescue the girl and arrest the suspect.

·       On 11th July. 2024, information has it that operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) in Kano have apprehended two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of s 20-yer-old lady, Rabi Auwalua in the State. The Director of the DSS in Kano Alhassan Muhammad, confirm the arrest.    

KATSINA

·       On 09th July. 2024, armed bandits in their large numbers attacked Runka town in Safana LGA, killed one person and abducting 22 others. Hon. Abdul Jalal Haruna Runka, confirmed the incident. He said the bandits infiltrated the town and strategically positioned themselves, preventing residents from escaping or defending themselves.

LAGOS

·       On 09th July. 2024, report has it that Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos ordered the remand of a 71-year-old man, Dumashi Sabo, who pleaded guilty for defiling a 12-year-old girl in Lagos. Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiye gave the other following a guilty plea entered by Sabo. Adekomaiya adjourned the case until July 15 for facts and sentencing.

·       On 10th July. 2024, three security guards namely Victor Odeh (22), Jermiah Negedu (32), Ubi Mbeh (40) and Idris Olatunji (44), brought before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos over allegedly stealing N250,000 from the offering box and 50 liters of diesel worth 50,000 from St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland, Lagos State. The suspects were standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft.

·       On 12th July. 2024, detectives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested a couple, Uchenna Eziekwe, 28 and Chineye Eziekwe, 22 for allegedly attempting to sell their 2-year-old child. The command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja. The suspects admitted that the decision was difficult but felt necessary given their circumstances. 

NIGER

·       On 10th July. 2024, information has it that at least six people were reportedly injure, while a tractor, a motorcycle and other valuables worth millions of naira were reportedly burnt in two land disputes between Dakumi and Gbage communities and Katakpa and Elegi villages in Lapai LGA of Niger State. the spokesperson of the police command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. He added that two suspects apprehended.

·       On 12th July. 2024, personnel from the Department of State Service (DSS) conducted a raid at the residence of a suspected hardened terrorist in the Gbeganu area, Bosso LGA, a suburb of Minna, Niger State. although specific details about the recovered weapons were not disclosed. The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said they had no information regarding the incident when contacted.  

OGUN

·       On 09th July. 2024, information has it that men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSCDC), Ogun 1 Area Command, intercepted 7,015 bags of foreign rice and 44,466 liters of patrol. Also intercepted 219 sacks and 1,725 parcels of Indian hemp and 940 rounds of ammunition. The Area Controller, James Ojo, disclosed this in Abeokuta. Spokesman of NSCDC in the State, Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the arrest.   

ONDO

·       On 11th July. 2024, information has it that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State reportedly apprehended two suspected hard drug dealers, Chukwudi Victor Amoke and Timilehin Abed in their hideout in Benue Hotel area and the Shasha Market respectively in Akure North LGA.        

OSUN

·       National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives arrested Ba’ale (village head) of Akarabata, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Chief Ige Babatunde 50-year-old monarch, with fresh Indian Hemp weight 5kg. The Spokesman of the NDLEA agency, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the development.

PLATEAU

·       On 09th July. 2024, information has it that the Police Command in Plateau State neutralised two bandits and recovered 2 million from three arrested kidnappers between Kuka village in Shendam LGA and Sarkin Kudu village in Taraba State. The Commissioner of Police, Olubenga Emmanuel Adesina, disclosed this while parading the suspects.

·       On 10th July. 2024, police in Plateau State, arrested a suspected car thief, Audu Yusuf, alongside a painter, Isma’il Alhasan over allegedly conspiring with the main suspects to change the colour to the stolen vehicle in Bukuru town in Jos South LGA. The spokesman of the police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, confirmed the arrest. He said state police command received information from Abuja that a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna with Registration number: KUJ610CY, and Chassis Number: 5TDZK23C47S036168, was reported stolen in Abuja. 

TARABA

·       On 12th July. 2024, information has it that gunmen stormed a hostel located outside off campus along the Wukari -Zaki Biam road at about 11pm and abducted two students at the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State. The spokesperson of the University, Mrs. Adore Auwudu, said security men had been mobilised and were on the trail of the kidnappers in the forest.

YOBE

·       On 10th July. 2024, report has it that suspected kidnapper identified as Usmanu Garba (30) nabbed after collecting ransom of 1.6 million naira. The commands spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest, he said the suspect is a member of a gang which specialises in armed robbery kidnapping and rustling in Gujba LGA and neighbouring towns.  Others syndicate members are on the run, and the command is intensifying efforts to apprehend them.

·       On 11th July. 2024, suspected kidnapper, Auwalu Haruna, reportedly been traced and arrested by the police from the Yobe State command in Kano State for allegedly impregnating his 20 -year-old woman hostage. The spokesman of the police command in Yobe State, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed, said the suspects a self-proclaimed marabout, allegedly used charm to abduct the victim.  

 

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)

·       On 08th July. 2024, following an intelligence gathering about six suspected bandits arrested during a joint security raid by police and soldiers on two bandits camp in Gidan Dogo and Jere forests of Kaduna and Niger States respectively which bordered the FCT. The Commissioner Police (CP), Benneth C. Igweh, disclosed while parading the suspects in Abuja. He gave out the suspects names as Yunusa Musa, Isiyaka Adamu, Kare Gambo, Aminu Musa, and Muhammed Ibrahim.

·       On 09th July. 2024, Mary Adewumi, 26-year-old arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend Sharon Olisha, to death following a misunderstanding in Kurudu suburb of Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory. The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident, said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to have mistakenly stabbed the deceased while they were having a heated argument.  

·       On 11th July. 2024, information has it that operatives attached to Iddo Police Division in Abuja trailed and arrested a man, Nuhu Ezra of Gosa Kipikipi village, Lugbe, a suburb of Abuja with human body parts. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth C. Igweh, had ordered that a thorough investigation be conducted to ascertain the bearer of the body part, intended buyer and find out if the suspect had killed anyone to get the body part.   

·       On 12th July. 2024, operatives of Police Command in Abuja stormed some identified black spots and suspected criminal hideouts at Apo by Turabora, Angwan Tiv by Zone E Extension and Fish Market, as well as Apo Resettlement, Abuja arrested 32 suspects during the ride. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, disclosed, He said some of the blackspots served as points of hibernation for scavengers and other hoodlums, exhibits such as mobile phone reasonably suspected to have been stolen, dried leaves suspected to be marijuana and house breaking tools were recovered.
