STATES
SECURITY INCIDENCES_

BAYELSA

·         On 15th October. 2024, report has it that an ocean surge from the Atlantic has displaced residents of Araromi and Rotimi fishing camps in the Okpoama Kingdom, Brass LGA, Bayelsa State, leaving fishermen and their family stranded, destroying homes, fishing equipment and farmlands. The Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Community Development, Watson Alfred Belemote, Visited the settlement to sympathize with the affected residents.

BENUE

·         On 15th October. 2024, following a heavy downpour in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, a severe flood has left many homeless, such areas flood-prone neighbourhoods such as Gyado Villa, Wadata, Wurukum, Achussa and part of North Bank. The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Sir James Iorpuu, confirmed the incident and assured that the agency immediate response to the need of those affected.

DELTA

·         On 14th October. 2024, intelligence gathering reported that 34, suspected kidnappers across the state have been apprehended. The spokesperson of the Command, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest, added that 12 cultists, two fraudsters and four-gun runners were arrested. He said seven AK-47, one AK-49, one G3, six pump Action guns nine LMG, 16 baretta Pistols, 35 cartridges, 53 ammunition and seven cutlasses were recovered.

·         On 15th October. 2024, intelligence gathering has it that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and some officers have been killed, which occurred near Agbarho Rail Station in an early hour ambush in Delta State and another DPO is in critical condition after the kidnap rescue mission went awry.  The Human Rights Activist, Comrade Israel Joe, confirmed the incident. Effort to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

EDO

·         On 14th October. 2024, it was gathered that a middle-aged man, Addulrafiu Afegbua, reportedly killed at Awoyemi, Okpella community, Etsake East LGA of the by gunmen suspected to be assassins in Edo State. The spokesperson for the state Police Command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident saying investigation is ongoing.

·         On 14th October. 2024, operatives of the Edo State Police Command arrested two suspects identified as Prince Anthony Uwa (31) and William Ugiagdor (38) for allegedly threatening to kill a woman and set her house ablaze. SP Moses Yamu, acknowledged the arrest.

·         On 15th October. 2024, credible information has it that there is tension in Agenebode Etsako West LGA of Edo State, following the alleged killing of three suspected kidnappers and set ablaze a police station and a patrol vehicle when officers at the station refused to hand over the suspected kidnappers arrested, by mob over missing young farmer in the area.

GOMBE

·         On 15th October. 2024, credible gathering has it that the Gombe State Police Command has paraded suspects who allegedly attacked a residence in the Tuden Wadan Pantami quarters of Gombe State searching for valuables. The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest.

KADUNA

·         On 15th October. 2024,  intelligence gathering has it that soldiers arrested two men for allegedly running errands for bandits at the SCC Village market in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State. A security source who preferred anonymity confirmed the arrest.

KANO

·         On 16th October. 2024, report has it that the Coordinator of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad Adam Abbas has revealed that a recent cholera outbreak has claimed 45 lives across 28 local government areas in the state. He further noted that the government is taking proactive steps to control the outbreak.

KOGI

·         On 15th October. 2024, information has it that the Kogi State Government acknowledged the devastating floods have submerged more than 200 communities, displacing over two million residents across the state. Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, disclosed in Kotonkarfe, Kogi LGA, describing the situation as a brewing humanitarian crisis.

·         On 18th October. 2024, a 70-year-old man, identified as Malam Abu Yusuf, was reportedly killed by a thunder strike in Abocho, a community in Dekina LGA of the Kogi State.  A resident, Dansoho Suleiman, confirmed the incident, revealed that the deceased was the Imam of the Angwa community and was healthy prior to the incident.

KWARA

·         On 14th October. 2024, following heavy rainfall, a yet-to-be identified baby said to be about three years old has been found under the Oyun Bridge along the road leading to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Kwara State. The Commissioner of Environment in the state, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Buge, confirmed the incident, confirmed the incident, said the corpse was delayed for 48 hours before it was buried.

·         On 15th October. 2024, information has it that one person has been reportedly killed and another injured when bandits in military uniform invaded the Oreke-Okegbo community in the Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State. The traditional ruler of Oreke, Oba Joseph Sunday Adefila, confirmed the attack. The spokeswoman for the state Police Command, DSP Toun Ejire- Adeyemi, acknowledged the incident, saying the investigation is ongoing.

·         On 16th October. 2024, a credible gathering has it that the Kwara State Police Command has dismissed three of its officers identified as inspector Abiodun Kayode, inspector James Samuel and Sergeant Oni Philip, over their alleged roles in the death of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola.

LAGOS

·         On 14th October. 2024, a 50-year-old man simply identified as Emmanuel has been crushed to death by a moving rain in the Oshodi area of Lagos State. The Lagos State Police Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the incident was reported at Mosafejo Police Station by the deceased ‘s younger sister.

·         On 14th October. 2024, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a fresh wave of interdiction operation targeting transnational drugs cartel have apprehended a Thailand returnee, Oguejiofor Nneamaka Simon Peter for importing 13.30kgs of heroin worth over 3.192 billion, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos State. The spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest.

·         On 15th October. 2024, information has it that four individuals were burnt recognition in a fire that destroyed a lounge and bar along Baale Road, Olodi Apapa, Lagos State. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged the incident, and said the four persons were staff members of the establishment.

NASARAWA

·         On 18th October. 2024, three abducted victims which comprised a woman, daughter and a resident were rescued after a joint security team engaged their abductors at their hideout at Gudunkarya forest that bordering the FCT and Nasarawa State. A relation of the victims, Modu Alkali, confirmed the rescue of the victims.

NIGER

·         On 16th October. 2024, intelligence gathering reported three suspected kidnappers killed in a gun duel with the police operatives in Kpakiko forest, Mokwa LGA of the Niger State. The spokesperson of the state Police Command SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the success recorded.

·         On 17th October. 2024, Cholera killed 16 persons across five local government areas including Paikoro, Bosso, Katcha, Suleja and Gurara in Niger State in two weeks with dozens being hospitalized raising concerns among residents. Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, the commissioner for Primary Healthcare, confirmed that the state recorded 165 cases of cholera, with a 9 percent mortality.

·         On 17th October. 2024, a yet-to-be identified man has reportedly slumped and died at a guest house in Paiko, the headquarters of Paikoro LGA of Niger State, where he had allegedly gone to see a commercial sex worker. One of the traders, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened in the night after the deceased was done having affairs with the sex worker.

OYO

·         On 15th October. 2024, six persons reportedly died, and five others injured in a road accident involving a trailer transporting tiles and a lorry loaded with soft drinks occurred at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko, along the Ankaran Road in the Ona Ara LGA in Oyo State.  Mrs. Rosemary Alo Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, confirmed the incident, but noted she was awaiting a detailed report.

ZAMFARA

·         On 14th October. 2024, a credible intelligence gathering reported that bandits blocked the busy Funtua-Tsafe road, shot the Director General of the Zamfara State Community Guards (CPG), General Lawal B. Muhammad (rtd), while numerous passengers were abducted. A source from the Zamfara State Ministry of Internal Security, who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident said the DG is receiving medical treatment at Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, the state capital.

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)

·         On 14th October. 2024, credible intelligence gathering has it that an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Musa Yakubu attached to the Yaba Divisional Police Headquarters in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, who was promoted to the rank of DSP by the Police Service Commission recently, has been found dead inside his apartment. The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the death of the deceased.

·         On 16th October. 2024, intelligence gathering reported 12 bodies of suspected bandits found in the Tokulo community of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory. The councilor representing the Igu Ward in the Area Council acknowledged the development.

·         On 17th October. 2024, a passenger reportedly died while two others sustained injuries after a bus crashed at Yangoji, Kwali Area Council along the Abuja-Lokoja highway. An official of the FRSC, who was part of the rescue operations attributed the accident to speed limit violation and overloading. He added the corpse of the passenger has been deposited at Kwali General Hospital morgue while the two injured victims were at the same hospital receiving treatment.

·         On 17th October. 2024, five people reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries following an accident involving a truck around the NYSC junction along the Kubwa express way in the FCT. A witness, Umar Aliyu, who put the incident time to some minutes before 1100hrs, attributed it to high speed. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission at the scene declined comment on the incident.

·         On 17th October. 2024, credible intelligence gathering has it that, the detective attached to the Anti-kidnap unit of the zone 7 police command headquarters in Abuja arrested five suspects and recovered live ammunition and six bottles of codeine syrups. AIG Benneth Igweh disclosed while parading the suspects in Abuja. He said charms, POS machine, 101 ATM cards foreign currencies, check book, empty phone packs international passport military uniform, calabash and some other hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.

·         On 18th October. 2024, it was gathered that a yet-to-be identified suspected cable vandal has been electrocuted at Jabi Abuja. Solomon Israel said the incident happened around 0900hrs when the deceased lifeless body was found behind the cable. The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, when contacted said, “I will confirm and revert to you, please”.
