STATES

SECURITY INCIDENCES.

ABIA STATE

·         On 20th May. 2024, report has it that unknown gunmen men killed two soldiers and claimed the life of a Keke operator. The governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army following the tragic death of two soldiers in an attack by unknown gunmen. Brigadier General O.O. Diya of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, assured the governor of ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, who remain at large.

·         On 22nd May. 2024, six pregnant woman, seven young girls, one breastfeeding mother and two minors were rescued from a baby factory owned by one Chinyere Nkwocha (63), in Umunkwa village, Umuahia North LGA of Abai State. The Director-General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi raised concerns over the surge in buying and selling of babies and commended the DSS for the operation and urged vigilance among parents.

·         On 23rd May. 2024, it was gathered that Mr. G.Z. Zhen, the Chinese expatriate allegedly killed Ocheze Ogbonna, a female crane operator at Inner Galaxy Steel Company in Umuahala-Obuzor, Ukwa West LGA of Abia State. ASP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, confirmed that the report of the incident has been received.

BAYELSA

·         On 22nd May. 2024, report has it that at least seven peoples lost their lives after inhaling fumes from generator inside a music studio along the Transformer Road in Amarata axis of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Police spokesman in the state, ASP Musa Muhammed, promised to find out and call back, but he did not pick his calls afterwards.

BENUE

·         On 22nd May. 2024, information has it that the Police in Benue Have busted a fraud academy and arrested 17 suspects in connection with cybercrime from different parts of the state. the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Steve Yabanet, paraded the suspects among many others for various alleged crimes at the command headquarters in Makurdi. 

·         On 23rd May. 2024, 13 suspects arrested by the police in Benue State for alleged involvement in kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery. Items recovered from them include an AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition, seven point of Sale (POS) machines and 150 ATM cards of different banks. The State’s Commissioner of Police, Hassan Steve Yabanet, who paraded the suspects said the suspects were arrested within their various hideout.

BORNO

·         On 20th May. 2024, information has it that at least 386 individuals, mostly women and children have been rescued by the army from the Sambisa Forest after being abducted about a decade ago. Brig-Gen. AGL Haruna, the acting GOC 7 Divisions in a briefing at the outskirts of the forest in Konduga LGA of Borno State following the successful conclusion of a 10-day operation dubbed “Operation Desert Sanity 111.

·         On 22nd May. 2024, it was gathered that the ISWAP fighters sneaked into New Marte and ambushed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team, killed the Superintendent of Police and injured others. The Borno Police Command Spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident and stated that the authorities are working to determine the circumstance of the attack.  

EBONYI

·         On 21st May. 2024, suspected warlords attacked Ikachi village in the Akparata area of Effium- Ezza, a communal clash has taken a deadly turn, with four individuals beheaded, five houses razed and seven other kidnapped. The Police Spokesperson in the state, DSP Ukandu Joshua, confirmed the incident and said military and mobile police officers had been deployed to the community to safeguard the resident.

EKITI

·         On 24th May. 2024, David Jimoh, arrested by men of the Ekiti State Agro Marshalls, for cultivating Indian hemp on 20 hectares of land in Eda Ile village in Ekiti East LGA. The Commander of the Agro Marshalls, Olamide Oni, said the man had been in the business.

ENUGU

·         On 24 May 2024, information has it that, the Police Command in Enugu State have arraigned a masquerade, popularly known as Oriokpa, for allegedly assaulting a woman at the Ugwuonye Junction in Nsukka LGA of the State. The spokesman the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Nduka, confirmed the incident.

GOMBE

IMO

·         On 20th May. 2024, report has it that six (6) persons killed when a truck ran over four shuttle minibuses at the Imo State University (IMSU) junction. The Police spokesman in Imo, Henry Okeye, disclosed this in Owerri the State Capital, he added, the police operatives, in collaboration with public-spirited individuals, assisted in evacuating the victims to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri for medical attention, where the medical practitioner on duty confirmed six dead on arrival.  

JIGAWA

·          

KADUNA

·         On 20th May. 2024, police team deployed to Kuriga in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, neutralised two bandits, recovered two Ak-47 rifles and 17 round of ammunition from the scene in the area. The governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, commended the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Audu Dabigi, along with his officers and men, for swift response and intervention.  

·         On 20th May. 2024, report has it bandits’ gun down Sarkin Hausawa’s son in Janjala, Kagarko LGA in Kaduna State, identify as Safiyanu Ibrahim who holds the traditional title as Sarkin Makara of Janjala. The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police command, SP Hassan Mansur was yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filling the report. 

·         On 22nd May. 2024, armed bandits reportedly abducted a woman and her one-week-old child while returning from Jere market to Dodon-Daji village in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State. Suleiman Musa, a resident of Kagarko, confirmed the incident and said the incident happened around 9; 12pm. The Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, SP Hassan Mansur is yet to confirm the incident as at filling this report.

·         On 23rd May. 2024, report has it that bandits invaded kidinu community in Chukun LGA of Kaduna State, killed a man and abducted two women, it was gathered also that the bandits also attacked Kakau Daji, a near community and abducted three women. The spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Mansur Hassan, promised to call back after getting details from the area, hadn’t at the time of filling the report.   

·         On 23rd May. 2024, information has it that bandits in army uniforms and wielding AK-47 rifles in their number chased away some farmers from their farms at Unguwar Jibo and Nasarawa communities in Kachia LGA of Kaduna. Meanwhile, two   suspected bandits ’informants’ were reportedly shot dead near Maraban Bishini in the area. A vigilante who preferred anonymity alleged that the two informants were conveying foodstuffs and drugs on motorcycle to the bandits when the gallant troops gave them a hot chase. the Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, SP Hassan Mansur, is yet to confirm the incident.

·         On 23rd May.  2024, report has it that the Kaduna State Police Command arrested several notorious robbery suspects terrorizing the Barnawa, Sabon Tasha and Karji areas of Kaduna State Metropolis. The arrest was confirmed by Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan. 

KOGI

·         On 21st May. 2024, gunmen killed two youths and injured others on community assignment in Ogbe village in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State. Kogi State Police Spokesman, SP William Ovye Aya, said the command was yet to receive a report on the incident. Meanwhile Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered security agents to fish out those behind the attack.

·         On 24th May. 2024, five killed in an author crash between Agbebe and Agbadu villages along the Lokoja / Kaba road in Kogi State. The incident occurred when two vehicles collided while travelling at high speeds, with one attempting to overtake a truck on the road. Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, spokesman for the Kogi State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident.

KWARA

·         On 20th May. 2024, Kwara State Police Command arrested and detained five health workers over the alleged mysterious disappearance of the umbilical cord and placenta of newborn baby in Oke-Ero local Government Area.  Spokeswoman for the Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun confirmed the incident, adding that operatives have commenced a discreet investigation into matter. 

·         On 23rd May. 2024, report has it that the security operatives rescued a two-year-old child and 11 market women abducted around the Ajase-Ipo road while returning to Offa from the Oke-Ode market in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State. the police spokesman in the state, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development.

·         On 24th May.  2024, report has it that a 40-year-old butcher, Ibrahim Alabi a driver, Muritala Adio, and two others Abdulrafiu Bolade and Rafiu Anafi have been arraigned in a magistrate’ court sitting in Ilorin South LGA of Kwara State over theft of a cow and receiving stolen items. The Magistrate, Dayo Ifalokun, granted the accused bail and adjourned the case to May 27, 2024. 

LAGOS

·         On 20th May. 2024, suspects, Olashile Obikoya, (21) and Victor Adebanjo, (20) members of a syndicate that specialises in vandalising cables connecting transformers to communities in Lagos have been arrested at Lopez Close, Awoshika Estate, Agege with several rolls of stolen electricity cables. Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, said the duo was also alleged to have vandalised electrical wires from a building in the area. 

·         On 23rd May. 2024, a 28-year-old man, Kenechukwu Enyeobi, arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly threatening to kill his father and take over his property. The Magistrate, L.K.J Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000.00, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to July 31st.

·         On 24th May. 2024, report has it that a guard, and a driver by name Galadima Adamu and Abubakar Lawal, arrested in Lagos State while trying to sell their employer’s Toyota Highlander. The State Commissioner of Police (CP), Adegoke Fayoade, confirmed the explained.

NASARAWA

·         On 20th May. 2024, the Nasarawa State Police Command, apprehended Gabriel David a 400-level student at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for allegedly raping a 100-level student of the same institution. The State Police Public Relations Officer (DSP), Ramhan Nansel disclosed in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.

·         On 24th May. 2024, report has it that gunmen invaded Ugya community in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State, killed 7 people including a mother and her 6-year-old child. A resident of Ugya, Ibrahim Alkali, said the incident happened when the armed men came through the bush and launched an attacked.  The Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashes, confirmed the incident.

NIGER

·         On 20th May. 2024, report has it that a 35-year-old Umar Mohammed, health worker working with a private clinic in Minna, has been stabbed to death by hoodlums in the Gbeganu area of Minna, the Niger State Capital. Police spokesman in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

·         On 21st May. 2024, unknown assailants attacked Alhaji Samaila Shekarau, District Head of Ringa in Kagara Emirate in Rafi LGA of Niger State. Spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached on telephone as at the time of filling this report.     

ONDO

·         On 23rd May. 2024, two worshippers reportedly crushed to dead and one other sustained injury by a speedy escort vehicle that occurred in the Elemoshi area of Bollounduro, along the Akure Ondo roads, Ondo State. The Ondo Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Salahdeen Faufu, said the crash was caused by a loss of concentration on the part of the drivers of the vehicles involved.

·         On 24th May. 2024, report has it that officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence in Ondo State nabbed Abraham Achibong (40), for allegedly defiling his 14-year -old daughter. After the victim informs her teacher about the situation. The State Commandant of NSCDC, Ibiloye Oluyemi, disclosed in Akure the state capital.

OYO

·         On 21st May. 2024, suspected theft Aman Chukwudi (25), was arraigned in a magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing a she-goat worth N250, 000 belonging to one Olawole Oke and Bajaj motorcycle property of one David Adepoju from inside a police barracks. The Magistrate, Mr. Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and adjourned the case to July 11.

PLATEAU

·         On 22nd May. 2024, bandits in their large number stormed Zurak village in Bashar District of Wase LGA of Plateau State and killed more than 50 persons and burnt many houses. Traditional ruler in the area and Tafidan Zurak, Lawan Idris confirmed the incident. DSP Alabo Alfred, said the bandits attacked Zurak and Dakai Villages Dakai Villages, killing nine persons and burnt down six houses while on the run.

·         On 23rd May. 2024, Inspector Emmanuel Tanko, a police officer attached to the enforcement team of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) reportedly shot dead by his colleague around Terminus Market, Jos Plateau State Capital. The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP. Alabo Alfred, confirmed the incident and said the suspected officer who fired the shot had been arrested.   

·         On 24 May 2024, the 3 Division of the Nigeria Army, Rukuba near Jos, dismissed and jailed four of its personnel in accordance with the 1999 constitution as amended, the Armed Forces Act (Rules of Procedure) 1972, others for various crimes committed.  President of the court martial, Brig Gen. Liafis Bello, said the soldiers were sanctioned having found guilty.

TARABA

·         On 20th May. 2024, members of the women’s wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State breach, lost six of its members and others sustained injuries in an auto crash along the Gembu-Jalingo road in Taraba State while returning from conference. In a statement by his media aide, Emmanuel Bello, the state governor, Agbu Kefas, expressed his condolences over the tragic accidents, heartbreaking and devasting.

·         On 22nd May. 2024, the gallant troops of the 6 Brigade Nigeria Army/Sub Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) captured six suspected kidnappers and rejected N2 million bribe offered to them by the suspects. The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer of 6 Brigade in Jalingo, LT Oni Olubodunde, said the suspects were arrested at Chinkai village and Sarkin Kudiu village in Wakari and Ibbi LGA of the state.   

ZAMFARA

·         On 23rd May. 2024, report has it that, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), rescued two daughters of the Zamfara State House of Assembly Member, Aminu Ardo after 17 months in captivity. Maryam and Nana Asama’u were handed over to their father at the force headquarters in Abuja.

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)

·         On 20th May. 2024, bandits abducted five people from Shagari Quarters, Dei-Dei in the FCT. The bandits preceded to some houses in Dakwa town but was unsuccessful following a fierce fire exchange with security men there, which forced them to withdraw, according to the Chief of Dakwa Dr. Alhassan Musa Babachukuri. He lamented that the bandits have made their base behind the Zuma Rock in Chachi community near Dakwa in neighbouring Niger State, which leads to some forests around Bwari. The FCT Police Command Spokeswoman, SP Josephine Ad, yet to respond to a text message to her text message to her on the incident.   

·         On 21st May. 2024, report has it that suspected gunmen in military uniform invaded Dawaki community in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory, abducted 20 people. The gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons stormed Dawaki at about 7:30 pm according to eyewitness Abel James, who escaped abduction, said the attackers “wore uniforms and had face masks”. The FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, confirmed the incident.

·         On 22nd May. 2024, report has it that nine of the 20 people abducted from Dawaki community in the Bwari Area Council are still missing the family disclosed.

·         On 24th May. 2024, the FCT Police Command paraded 152 scavengers, popularly known as Baban Bola, for allegedly vandalizing government property, theft of household item and engaging in various crime. CP Benneth Igweh, said they were arrested in a coordinated raid on some black spots in Jabi, Karu, Mabushi, Jabi Daki – Biyu, among other criminal hideouts, in Abuja, two guns recover, car and motorcycle he added.
