STATES
SECURITY INCIDENCES_

BENUE

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, three (3) young persons were reportedly killed by suspected armed Herdsmen in Entekpa Council Ward of Adoka District in Otukpo LGA of Benue. Caretaker Council Chairman of Utukpo LGA, Alfred Oketa Omakwu, confirmed the incident, He said, “there is no peace”. We lost three youths in Entepka, one of them was riding a bike and they attacked and shot him. They took the bike and followed the bush path to Udabi. Then they came out in Adoke Icho, they saw two people and they killed them too.  

Ø  On 25thApril 2024, report has it that three farmers have been reportedly killed by armed invaders in Odugbo community of Apa LGA in Benue State. The latest killing of farmers was among several invasions, that had sacked many communities of Apa in recent times. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, when contacted, however, said she was not aware of the incident.

DELTA

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, report has it that following the visit of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, life is said to be gradually returning to the once busy oil-rich community of Igbomotoru in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State after the troops of the Nigerian Army invaded the area in search of militant kingpin, Endurance Amagbain, suspected to mastermind the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama Community, Delta State.  

EDO

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, in renewed cult clash in south Ibe and its environs in Etsako West LGA of Edo State, three people were killed, one of the victims was killed separately while two were said to have been shot at the Campus II gate of the Auchi Polytechnic. The State’s Police Spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the killing, said: “I will let the public know of any development.”

Ø  On 25th April 2024, two suspected armed robbers, Brown John (26) and Ayodele Aziz (30) who stormed a Deeper Life Bible Church in Benin, robbed the Pastor and other worshipers during church service were arrested by the Edo State Police Command.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, Gallant Police Force in Edo State arrested five suspects, including two Police deserters, Alex Akaeze (39) and Kadiri Hassan (45), over alleged unlawful possession of 1,080kg of ice (hard drugs) valued at 20 million

ENUGU

Ø  On 25th April 2024, Mr. Mfonobong Udoudom, lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), was arrested by the Police Force in Enugu State following his suspension by the University due to allegation of sexual assault on a female student of the institution. The University’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Dr. Okwun Omeaku, in a statement confirmed the suspension to facilitate thorough investigation by a disciplinary panel.

KADUNA

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, the abductors of the Village Head of Bishini in Kachia Local Government Council of Kaduna State, Samuel Dambayi, have demanded a N16 million ransom, cough syrup and three motorcycles. The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, SP Hassan Mansur could not be reached to react on the development.

Ø  24th April 2024, bandits invaded the Unguwan Habuja of Kakanji and Gonan Alhaji Mutari along Birnin-Gwari Kakangi of Kaduna State and killed three (3) persons including the leader of the Vigilante and abducted 8 others. Hon. Yahaya Musa Dan Salio, Member Representing Kakangi Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly confirmed incident. Also, a former chairman of the Birnin Gwari Emirates Progressive Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai confirmed the attack but declined further comment.

Ø  On 24th April 2024, information has it that bandits shot and injured three herders and rustled 360 cows in three settlements in Janjala community in Kagarka LGA of Kaduna State. Shuaibu Usman, a resident, said the incident happened at about 5pm when the bandits wielding AK-47 rifles attacked three Fulani settlements.

Ø  On 25th April 2024, a father was arrested taking exams for his son during the ongoing Unified tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The Registrar of Join Admission and Matriculation Borad (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has expressed concern about the practice of some parents impersonating their children during examinations. He disclosed this while inspecting a Jamb center in Kaduna State.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, Soldiers intercepted a commercial cyclist alleged to be running errands for bandits in Gada-Malam in Rijana Village along the Abuja- Kaduna highway. Vigilantes who had been suspecting him alerted the soldiers, who monitored him while heading towards forest, flagged him down, searched the sack he was carrying and discovered recharge cards worth N235,000. Cough Syrup, a carton of spaghetti, wines and packets of cigarettes. The Cyclist confessed that he was sent by bandits from the Rijana Forest who paid him between N60,000 and N80,000 per errand.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, the Kaduna State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said that one person was killed, and three others injured in a road crash on the Kaduna- Abuja expressway. The Sector Commander, Kabir Nadabo, also said that N8.7 million was recovered from the accident scene. He added the Volkswagon Golf with registration number, SBG 87 XB, travelling from Minna in Niger State rammed into an Unnumbered trailer moving towards Kaduna.

KANO

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, Malam Dauda Musa, the father of an 11-year-old girl who died after she was allegedly raped by a teacher in Dala LGA of Kano State has narrated how she died from complications that she sustained during the rape incident. The suspect, a teacher in Dandinshe Quarters in Dala LGA, was arrested and alter arraigned before Court 47, Nomas Land, Kano.

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, says 70 percent of inmates are awaiting trial across the custodial centres in the state. The Public Relation Officer of the Command SC. Muubahu Lawan, disclosed this information. 

KOGI

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, report has it that some passengers were burnt to death in a road accident at Aloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Witnesses said the accident which happened in front of Aloma teachers’ College, Involved two buses, and a trailer. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident but was yet to establish the actual number of casualties as at the time of filing this report.  

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, two suspected kidnappers were arrested in Okikili village along Anyigba-Ankpo road in the Eastern District of Kogi State while trying to collect ransom.  Information has it that one Mohammed from the community said vigilantes were alerted about the incident and that they swung into action leading to the arrest of suspects, adding that they had been handed over to government authority.   

KWARA

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, the Kwara State Police Command apprehended a 24-year-old Wasiu Afolabi, over allegedly extortion of his parents, family members and friends after he reportedly demanded a N3 million ransom for a fake abduction. These was disclosed by the spokeswoman of the command Toun Ejire-Adeyemi. 

Ø  On 24th April 2024, through diligent investigation and cooperation from the community, the Kwara State Police Command said it has arrested another suspect, Atilola Sarafa over the recent kidnap of the wife, Mrs. Afusat Lawal, and two children, Faofiq and Aliyu, of a member of the House of Assumably Hon. Ayanshola Lawal.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, Men of the Kwara State Police Command arrested a Student of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida Niger State, with recruitment forms for a cult group in a hotel in Kwara Sate. The Commissioner of Police, Victor OLayiyaa, Confirmed the Student’s arrest, said. “We have also Arrested six more suspects, among who is a boy who came all the way from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State.

LAGOS

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command has arrested four members of a syndicate, Jeremiah Ekanem, Bashiru Mohammed, Abdullahi Yerima, and Hassan Abdul, who specialise in stealing tricycles from warehouses. The Command Spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest and recovery of the tricycles.

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, information indicated that Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), arrested three members of a criminal organisation which specialized in illicit drug trafficking across Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique, Europe and America. Spokesman of NDLEA Femi Babafemi in a statement, said that the three suspects were arrested two months after their being declared wanted following the recent seizure of the single largest consignment of heroin at the Murtala Muhammed international Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos Sate. 

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, report has it that accident involving two trucks and a tricycle lead to the dead of one person and six others sustained injuries at Lagos/Abeokuta Tollgate.

Ø  On 24th April 2024, the Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), disclosed that it has recorded 111 Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) in the first quarter of 2024, 535 people were involved inroad crashed out of which 17 recorded deaths. The Sector Commander said 98 commercial vehicles, 69 owned by individuals and two government vehicles were involved in the accident.    

Ø  On 25th April 2024, two suspects were apprehended in their hideout at the Ijegun Area of Lagos State while others took to flight. the Operatives of the Maritime Command Team led by SP Kenneth Ogbeifun of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) arrested Okechukwu Onyewuenyi and Chukwuma Ogwashima, for allegedly stealing two empty containers from the seaport in Lagos.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, Operatives of the Rapid Response Squard (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command arrested two suspected thieves, Azeez Rilwan (27) and Azeez Folarin (23), dispossessing members of the pubic in heavy traffic of their valuables in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.  

 

NIGER

 

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, Military confirmed 6 soldiers killed by marauding terrorists at Roro, Karaga and Rumace communities, Bassa Ward, Shiroro LGA, of Niger State. The Director, Defence Media Operations Major-General Edward Buba, specifically said there would be “injurious consequences” for the act.

 

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, five children between the ages of five and 13, including three siblings, were found dead in a car parked at a compound in the Albishiri area of Minna, Niger State. The Sate’s Police spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident said at about 6.30pm, based on information received at the Kpakungu Division, five children were found trapped in a Honda Civic with Reg. No. GO 778 AB, in Albishiri area of Minna.

Ø  On 24th April 2024, Adamu Mohammed Tumaka, a commercial motorcyclist, has reportedly been killed and his bike stolen on Okada Road, Type-B Quarters, Minna, Niger State. Similarly, a trader, Abubakar Chika, of Anguwan-Doki, Tunga, Minna, was repeatedly killed by robbers while returning from the Paiko weekly market at Minna City Gate opposite the House of Assembly Quarters.  The State’s Police Command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, promised to get back and give details of the incidents.

Ø  0n 26th April 2024, information has it that security presence has been beefed up in and around Suleja town in Niger State as manhunt for the 119 inmates of the Federal Correctional Centre in the town, who escaped following a downpour that washed away a section of its fence, gets underway. The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the escaped of inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, Niger State.

OGUN

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, report has it that the Federal Operations Unit Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, said it has seized a new Toyota Prado worth N105 million from smugglers in Ogun State.  The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was allegedly being smuggled into Nigeria from the Republic of Benin intercepted by officials of the service.

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, armed gunmen suspected to be kidnapers reportedly invaded Ajadeh Event Centre, in Iperu Area of Ogun State and opened fire on people, killing a Law Professor of Babcock University, Ilisan, OLowojobi Yinka.  Police spokesperson in the State, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta. Odutola said, a manager of a car stands simply known as Dare and yet-to be identified person were abducted by the gunmen.

Ø  On 23rd April 2023, a 49-year-old woman Mrs. Idowu Victoria, has been found dead after she allegedly hung herself on the ceiling fan inside her room in Magboro Area of Gun State. The Police Spokesperson (CP) Alamutu Abiodun confirmed the incident through the Ibafo Division Command, she further advised the families to seek experts’ help for relatives or loved ones who needed emotional support.

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, suspected cultists in a clash between members of the Eiye and Aye confraternity groups in Abeokuta, Ogun State, killed people in a bloody clashed. The Police Spokesman in the State, Omolola Odutola, said she had not been briefed on the incident from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area.

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, report has it that accident occurred at the tollgate area of the highway involving three vehicles, a Sino truck marked FST926YA, a Howo truck with registration number GSW180XA, and a Bajaj tricycle marked KLE76KT. Crushed a pedestrian while six others sustained injuries in the accident along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident saying it occurred at 7:10 am.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, the Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected “one chance” armed robbers, Emmanuel Edeki and Tobi David in Ota Ado Odo-Ota LGA of the State. The spokesman of the command Odutola, who confirmed the arrest said they will be prosecuted. 

OYO

Ø  On 23rd of April 2024, the Redeem Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Olugbenga Olawore, who was kidnapped alongside other passengers of a 14-seater commercial bus heading to Lagos State has regained freedom.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, report has it that, alleged killers of Oyo Corps Member landed in Police net. The Police Command through the spokesman Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest of some officers led by Inspector Rasheed Saheed, who were allegedly involved in the killing of a corps member, Damilola Iyanda, in the Ogbomoso Axis of the State.  

PLATEAU

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, bandits terrorising communities in the Wase LGA of the State surrendered a significant number of AK47 rifles to the State Government. The Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Security and Commander Operation Rainbow, Bridger General Gakji Shippi, disclosed this during a briefing in Jos, the state capital.

Ø  On 24th April 2024, Windstorm has destroyed more than 40 houses at the Staff Quarters of the University of Jos following a heavy downpour in Jos Plateau State. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, disclosed.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, information has it that 15 people including a student at Plateau State University Bokkos were killed in a night attack. Operation Safe Heaven (OPSH), a multi-agency security task force maintaining peace in Plateau State engaged with Stakeholders from Bokkos and Mangu LGAs following the recent resurgence of killings in the areas. 

RIVERS

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, gunmen suspected to be members of a notorious cult group know as the Greenlander cult gang headed by  ‘General Crocodile’  killed three people and abducted many others in an attack on Olukuma community in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State. Spokeswoman of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-koko, promised to investigate and provide further information on the incident she disclosed.

ZAMFARA

Ø  On 26th April 2024, armed bandits attacked the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Bunu. They Bandits stormed the town around 10pm according to locals, leading to three persons dead, some residents including one of the staff of Zurmi Emir’s Palace abducted, also attacked the residence of the former Military Administrator of Nasarawa State, Colonel Bala Muhammed Mande (rtd). Commissioner of Police in Zamfara, Muhammed Shehu Dalijan, confirmed the attack but said he is noted aware that some people were killed.

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)

Ø  On 22nd April 2024, the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh has disclosed how a mechanic Jonathan Marcus, allegedly stabbed an 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekeil, to death in their residence at the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

Ø  On 23rd April 2024, report has it that a man, Shuaibu Aliyu, has been killed in a windstorm which wreak havoc in Kwaita village in Kwalim Area Council of the FCT. A resident, Ibrahim Yahaya, said the incident happened around 6pm when a windstorm destroyed houses in the community.

Ø  On 26th April 2024, a driver has reportedly been killed while two others sustained injuries after an 18-seater bus rammed into a truck near Yaba Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja highway. The victims were taken to the Abaji General Hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). An official of the FRSC confirmed the accident.
