STATES

SECURITY INCIDENCES_

BAUCHI

·       On 1st August. 2024, information has it that a road crash in Dutsin Hari, a village on the Jalam to Lanzai road, Damba;m Local Government Area, has claimed the lives of four people and left sixteen others injured.  The Bauchi State Police Public relations Officer, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the fatalities and the number of injuries.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, floods destroyed over 210 house and damaged thousands of hectares of farmlands worth millions of naira in four local government areas of Bauchi State. Dr. Umar Gabarin, the coordinator Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), confirmed the affected places. He noted that many people ignored the warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

BENUE

·       On 29th July. 2024, report has it that a mob set ablaze a suspected armed robber who robbed a paint shop and thereafter went to a bet9ja shop to rob other victims in the Modern Market in Makurdi metropolis in Benue State. the Police spokeswoman in the state, SP Cathrine Anene, was yet to comment on the matter.   

·       On 02nd August. 2024, the police in Benue State arrested one Usman Hardo who specialises in kidnapping and cattle rustling in Nasarawa State and Guma LGA of Benue State. The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Cathrine, confirmed the arrest, said that suspect had long been on the wanted list of the police.    

BORNO

·       On 29th July. 2024, suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed a policeman and a woman, destroyed 2 patrol vehicles, carted away arms and ammunition, following an attacked launched at Jakana Police Station in Konduga LGA of Borno State. The Chairman of Konduga LGA, Hon. Abbas Ali Abari, confirmed the attack.

·       On 01st August. 2024, 19 people reportedly killed with unspecified number of civilians injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents detonated in Kawuri village, Konduga Local Government Area. Efforts to contact the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Daso, were not successful as at the time of filing this report.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, four protesters feared killed at Kime Filling Station, Bolori Junction in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital. A curfew was later imposed by the Borno State Police Command, after consultation with the Chief Security Officer of the State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.   

DELTA

·       On 31st July. 2024, gunmen suspected to be kidnapers attacked two churches, King Jesus Church and Another located off DBS Road, Asaba, killed two policemen and abducted Joan Mrakpor, the former House of Representatives member for Aniocha/Oshimili constituency of Delta State. The Police Public Relation Officer of the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the attack.

·       On 31st July. 2024, the police operatives in Delta State neutralized on suspected kidnapper and recovered two pump action guns. The command spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in Asaba, said 16 rounds of live cartridges were also recovered from the suspect.    

·       On 02nd August. 2024, intelligence gathering has it that the Police arrested five suspected kidnapers over the killing of their victim, Smart Nwashiri (29), after they collected N200,000 from him in Edo State. The state’s Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the arrest.

EKITI

·       On 31st July. 2024, report has it that an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, remanded a 52-year-old man, Emmanuel Manyan, in a correctional facility over alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Saka Afunso, remanded the defendant in a correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti pending the issues of legal advice.  

·       On 02nd August. 2024, intelligence gathering has it that 6 suspects Abdul Opotu, Omowaye Ayodele, Kenneth, Amodu Gbenga, Nnamani Chuwukan and Ojo Ijan arrested in connection with the murder of an ex-Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Prof. Femi Olaofe.  The command’s spokesman, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest. He said the gunmen kidnapped the late Professor Olaofe, in his residence.

GOMBE

·       On 30th July. 2024, information has it that Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) clamped down on traders using tampered scales for measurement at the Gombe Main Market. The state’s Commander of NSCDC, Muhammad Bello Muazu, confirmed the development.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, hunger protesters turned violent in Gombe metropolis, with   several shops looted by suspected hoodlums who unleashed mayhem on other members of the public. Government offices such as Bureau for Public Service Reforms and Revenue Recovery Tribunal and Private properties, such as Bima Loge and other in the state, were looted by the protesters.

JIGAWA

·       On 29th July. 2024, report has it that a building collapse incident and outbreak of violence and arson have rocked Jigawa State, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake. The police spokesman in the state, Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident. He said that the building collapse left three fatalities and four injured victims.

·       On 30th July. 2024, the Jigawa State Police Command apprehended 22 suspected thieves, rustlers and drug dealers and recovered several stolen items, including a motorcycle, cows, a plasma TV, copper wires and illicit drugs. The commands spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Aadam, confirmed the arrest.  In another incident, one Nasiru S. Kaila (29) apprehended in possession of a stolen Samsung Plasma TV.     

·       On 02nd August. 2024, information has it that the nationwide protest against hunger kicked off in over 10 towns in Jigawa State with three persons killed, and five rushed to Rashed Shekoni General Hospital with destruction and looting of government properties by hoodlums.

KADUNA

·       On 29th July. 2024, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ubaida Aliyu, who was reportedly found to be in possession of 573 rounds of live ammunition. The spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the apprehension, said in a statement that the suspect was arrested on the Kaduna -Zaria highway.

·       On 31st July. 2024, armed bandits reportedly shot a farmer and abducted two of his wives while they were returning from their farm in Maraban Jibo community in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State. A resident, Magaji Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, said the incident happened around 6pm.   

·       On 1st August. 2024, report has it that soldier have shot dead two bandits while they were attempting to rustle cows in Dogon-Daji village in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State. A community leader said, “troops who were on patrol along Janjala and Gidan Makeri communities saved a situation, if not the bandits would have succeeded in rustling the cows.”

·       On 02nd August. 2024, two feared dead as protesters in Kaduna reportedly Vandalised the office of the Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and the Kaduna Investment and Promotions Agency (KADIPA). A senior staff oof KASTELEA who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, he said the hoodlums vandalised the offices, looted items and set ablaze a tricycle found inside the premises.

KANO

·       On 29th July. 2024, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, paraded suspected vandals, mobile phone snatchers and tricycle thieves identified as Abdurrahman Umar (19), Tasi’u Salisu (17), Mubarak Idris (19), Abba Umar (25) and Sulaiman Abdulhamid (19). The spokesman of the command, SP Ibrahim Abdullahi Idris, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

·       On 30th July. 2024, information has it that Bayero University Kano (BUK) security operatives have arrested two individuals identified as David Iluebe and Mr. Chike E. Eke from Edo and Delta posing as lectures and selling books to unsuspecting first-year students. The Acting Registrar Bala G Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest.  

·       On 31st July. 2024, a man, Abdullahi Idris, resident of Rimi town in Sumaila LGA, has been arraigned in Kano State Sharia Court for allegedly setting his girlfriend, Sa’adatu Ibrahim, ablaze for turning down his marriage proposal. The Khadiyya, Rakiya Lami Sani, ordered his remand in the prison and adjourned to September 16.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, the Kano State Public Command apprehended 269 suspects who it said exploited the nationwide protest as cover for their malicious activities. The Public Relations Officer on the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest. He said many jerricans of 25 liters of groundnut oil, a large quality of stationeries, foodstuffs, and other valuable properties recovered.

KEBBI

·       On 30th July. 2024, report has it that three suspects, Abubakar Umar (35), Yahuza Muhammad (25) and Lawal Buda (buyer), arrested over stolen cables and vandalising some transformers in Kwandage, Hore, Suru and Tungar Gero communities belonging KAEDCO in the Suru LGA of Kebbi State.

·       On 30th July. 2024, gunmen, believed to be smugglers reportedly killed an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and abducted another during an attack on their patrol base in the Koko Basse area of Kebbi State. The Public Relation Officer (PRO) for the NCS Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, confirmed the incident.

LAGOS

·       On 29th July. 2024, report has it that two members of a fraud syndicate, Ikeocha Daniel Kelechi and Sylvester Ebeta, apprehended by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) for allegedly defrauding a leading Nigeria Financial Technology (FinTech) company of N614 million. The PSFU’s spokesman, Eyitayo Johnson, confirmed the arrest.

·       On 1st August. 2024, three domestic staffs members apprehended by the police operatives in Lagos over killing of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia’s daughter whom the victim, a medical doctor was found dead in front of her apartment at Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.  The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the detention.

·       On 1st August. 2024, information has it that a 28-year-old man, Faye Segun has been stabbed to death by one Segun Adekunle during a fighting in the Iwaya area of Lagos. It was gathered that the suspect fled the scene as soon as he realised that the victim was dead. A source said the suspect’s mother was arrested.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, two members of an arms smuggling syndicate, Sherrif Mustapha (42) and Suturat Lateef (28), arrested by detectives attached to the Commissioner of Police Tactical Unit based in Surulere around 2am. Recovered nine automatic rifles, three walkie talkie, nine international passport and several rounds of ammunitions in Mushin area of the state. 

NASARAWA

·       On 29th July. 2024, gunmen reportedly open fire on vigilantes who were observing magrib prayer at a checkpoint near Tashir-Fulani in Ukya village in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State and killed one of them and others were rushed to the Toto General Hospital. The Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, who confirmed the incident and condemned the attack.

·       On 31st July. 2024, intelligence led by Nasarawa State Police Command arrested 11 suspected kidnappers for allegedly terrorising residents of Nunku village in Akwanga LGA and in Masaka, Karu LGA among other LGAs in the state. The command also apprehended 13 robbery suspects in Karu LGA. Also, police operatives attached to Masaka Division apprehended Ahmadu Ibrahim (20), Mohammed Abubakar (30) and Jibrin Ahmadu (30). The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shehu Umar-Nadada, confirmed the arrest.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, it was reported that that the protest in the Mararaba part of Karu LGA of Nasarawa State turned violent with some hoodlums burning and looting shops along the Keffi-Abuja highway in the area. The Chairman Karu LGA imposed a 24-hour curfew in the locality. 

NIGER

·       On 31st July. 2024, report has it that a 29-year-old man, Muzamilu Abubakar, has allegedly killed and buried his 60-year-old father, Malam Abubakar Adawa Tsonga, in Chanchaga LGA of Niger State. The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

·       On 02nd August. 2024, the Niger State Police Command apprehended 11b people following burning of some building in Tafa LGA secretariat. The spokesman of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed this in a statement, said two cars were set ablaze, while two others were vandalised. He said dangerous weapons and some looted items were recovered from the suspects 

OSUN

·       On 29th July. 2024, operatives of Osun State Police Command reportedly arrested a 37-year-old man, Adegboye Opeyemi, in possession of human skull gotten from a cemetery in Lagos through the helped of his friend, on Ifedayo Street in the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo. The Command’s spokesman, Yemisi Opatola, confirmed the arrest, said the efforts were ongoing to arrest his accomplice.

·       On 31st July. 2024, the Osun State Police Command arrested a suspected member of a secret cult, Damilola Olatunji (22), over alleged murder and unlawful possession of firearms in Osogbo. The commands spokesman, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the apprehension, said four pump action guns, three Beretta guns, one knife, 10 cutlasses and 33 cartages.  

PLATEAU

·       On 30th July. 2024, police operatives in Plateau State arrested four suspects Nangwan Nantip, Muru Goshit, Vincent Maika and Kefas Gomah in connection with the theft of 30 solar panels in Jos. The spokesman of the command, DSP Alabo Alfred, said the suspects were apprehended following reports theft of solar panels in some communities.

SOKOTO

·       On 29th July. 2024, Armed gunmen abducted the district Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State, Isa Muhammad, his son and brother. The Solo Administrator of Sabon Birni LGA, Garba Umar Kaba, confirmed the abduction. He said they were abducted near Kwanan Maharba while returning from Sokoto.

·       On 1st August. 2024, report has it that bandits killed two people and abducted 20 others on the Sabon Birnin LGA of Sokoto State. Aminu Boza, the member representing Sabon Birni South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, confirmed the attacked.

TARABA

·       On 1st August. 2024, gallant soldiers of Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army (NA), Jalingo, Taraba State, have killed a notorious terrorist, identified simply as Odumegu. The spokesman of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde confirmed, he said the troops also recovered an AK-47 refiles, phones, charms among other during an operation at the hideout of the terrorist between Taraba and Benue

ZAMFARA

·       On 30th July. 2024, information has it that a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Aminu Ibrahim, representing Kaura Namoda State Constituency, apprehended over banditry and kidnapping. The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, confirmed the arrest. He further revealed also that the District Head of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Jafaru Abdullahi K and a former chairman of the LGA, Nasiru Muhammad, are in custody over similar allegation. He added also three District Heads are being investigated over the same issues.

·       On 31st July. 2024, bandits in Zamfara State have released 78 out of the 100 people the abducted in Dan village in Kaura Namoda LGA following a ransom payment of N20million as disclosed by Alhaji Hassan Isa Yarima, the secretary to the village head of Dan Isa.

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)

·       On 30th July. 2024, police operatives apprehended a man identified as Brendan Ugwu, in possession of a locally made gun around Dan Kogi Filling in Zuba, Abuja. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, confirmed the interception. CP Igweh further disclosed that two other suspected robbers, Mohammed and Miracle Felix had been arrested.

·       On 30th July. 2024, information has it that suspected hoodlums killed a teacher, Ismaila Umar, working with the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Old-Kutunku, in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, around 10 pm. The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Josphine Adeh, was yet to react on the incident. 

·       On 31st July. 2024, operatives of the FCT police command attached to Pegi division have apprehended one Rahimat Salaum of Pedi in Kuje Area Council in connection with alleged killing of her husband. The commands ‘Public Relation Officer, Josphine Adeh, confirmed the arrest.

·       On 1st August. 2024, a 47-year-old farmer, Danile Jacob has been reportedly hacked to death by suspected herders on his farm in Dogon-Ruwa community in Gawuna Ward in Abaji Area Council of the FCT. A police source said, “The family of the deceased farmer reported the incident. A relative of the deceased, simply identified as Ishaya, confirmed the painful incident.
