CGL Security Briefs: Week Ended 7th March, 2025
BAUCHI
• On 3rd March 2025, intelligence driven efforts have it that the operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command apprehended a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly using cane to beat his wife, Wasila Abdullahi, which resulted in her death. The Commands Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahemed Wakil, confirmed the arrest.
BAYELSA
• On 3rd March 2025, following an invasion by armed invaders on Tse Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government of Benue State, six bodies recovered. The Chairman of Ukum LGA, Hon. Jonathan Modi, acknowledged the incident, said he is on his way to visit the affected area as at the time of filing this report.
EDO
• On 5th March 2025, gunmen stormed St. Peters Catholic Church in Ivukwa, Etsako East LGA, abducted a Catholic Priest, Rev. Philip Ekeli, and a seminarian, Peter Andrew, in Edo State. The Edo State Police Command spokesman, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, said one of the kidnappers was killed, while four arrested during the operation.
JIGAWA
• On 4th March 2025, the police operatives apprehended seven suspected drugs peddlers in Kazaure and Gwaran Local Government Areas LGAs) of the state. The Police Spokesman in the state, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrest.
KADUNA
• On 4th March 2025, information has it that bandits wielding AK-47 rifles invaded and abduct eight people in Katari, kachai Local Government Area of Kaduna State. A community leader from the area who preferred anonymity confirmed the abduction.
• On 6th March 2025, intelligence base operation has it that troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN and Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A apprehended three suspected kidnappers during a rescue operation in Borno Forest in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State. The spokesman of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major Samson Zakom, confirmed the arrest, said troop rescue five victims, cash and guns recovered.
KANO
• On 3rd March 2025, following an intelligence gathering, operatives of the Kano State Police Command apprehended two men suspected of stealing mobile phone from the traders at Beirut phone market and reselling them. The Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest.
• On 7th March 2025, police operatives in Kano apprehended two suspected fraudsters, who specialize in the use of social media to lure victims with offers of romance, then forced them to hand over cash or be arrested. The spokesman for the police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiawah, disclosed the arrest.
KATSINA
• On 3rd March 2025, armed assailants, disguised and wielding AK-47 rifles, stormed the area and kidnapped four students at the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA), residing in the Quarters area of Dutsinma, Katsina State. neither the state police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq and government had reacted to the incident.
KEBBI
• On 3rd March 2025, information has it that gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists group killed six people and rustled unspecified number of cattle’s when the invaded the villages of Baziga and Rausar Kade in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The Chairman of Arewa LGA, Hon. Sani Aliyu Tela, confirmed the attack.
KOGI
• On 3rd March 2025, a fatal accident occurred around 17200hrs from the Produce, Falele along the Lokoja-Okene Road, where the truck crashed into the concrete road divider. The FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, confirmed, the accident, said four persons died and others sustained various degree of injuries.
• On 6th March 2025, suspected kidnappers ambushed travelers along the Ayere-Kabba federal highway in Kogi State, abducting three passengers and leaving four others injured. Efforts to get a response from Kogi State police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, were unsuccessful as he neither answered calls nor responded to messages.
KWARA
• On 4th March 2025, credible gathering has it that three suspected kidnappers killed, while two others were injured as police operatives and suspected kidnappers engaged in a gun duel in Kwara State. The police spokeswoman in the state, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development, said 1 AK-47 rifle and charms recovered.
LAGOS
• On 5th March 2025, report has it that four killed and six people sustained varying degrees of injury from the rubble of a two-story building that collapsed in Lekki area of Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.
NIGER
• On 3rd March 2025, intelligence driven efforts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), 11 suspects apprehended following a raid on the White Hill Hotel along Shiroro Road in Minna, the Niger State Capital. The spokesman for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest.
• On 7th March 2025, report has it that a fuel-laden tanker explosion in Karami Rami Ward, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, has claimed at least six lives. The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the incident.
OGUN
• On 5th March 2025, at least 16 passengers reportedly burnt to death while three others sustained injuries in a road crash which occurred at Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway involved a white Mazda bus registered as KJA 949 YJ. The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed.
YOBE
• On 3rd March 2025, intelligence driven efforts have it that Yobe State Police Command apprehended no fewer than six suspects for allegedly killing two police officer at Kolere village in Fune Local Government Area of the state. DC Operations of the Command, DCP Abdu Abubakar Ozo, disclosed.
• On 4th March 2025, intelligence gathering has it that suspected Boko Harma terrorists abducted the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University, Biu Borno State, Prof. Abubakar Eljuma, alongside other passengers near Kamuya village in Yobe State.
• On 3rd March 2025, suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly broken into the house of a Police Inspector, Malam Jibrin, slaughtered his two sons and set their corpses and house ablaze, in Buni Yadi town, Gujba LGA of Yobe State. The Vigilante who confided said the insurgent who carried out the attack, lived in the Buk and Talala area, about 30km east of Buni Yadi.
ZAMFARA
• On 4th March 2025, armed bandits reportedly abducted the Chairman of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Dan-Isa Ward, Kauran Namoda, Malam Yakubu Sani alongside three others. A resident of Dansadau confirmed the incident.
• On 7th March 2025, information has it that twelve operatives of the Zamfara community guards and local vigilantes reportedly been killed in a clash with bandits at Adakka village in Bukkiyum local Government Area of Zamfara State.
FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT)
• On 4th March 2025, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dawaki acted swiftly by leading his patrol team to rescued and united with the family, Modestus Ojiebe, the Chief Superintendent of Police. The Police Public Relations Officer in FCT Josphine Adeh, confirmed the rescue.
• On 6th March 2025, suspected herders hacked a man, identified as John Moses Gwatana, to death over a water a pond at Riwaza community in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). A resident of Riwaza, Yakubu Gideon, confirmed the incident.
