First Half of 2025 Security Incident Analysis

Jun 30, 2025News, Security Updates

INTRODUCTION

At Ciliathec Guards Limited, we go beyond providing physical security presence. We deliver actionable intelligence that empowers our clients to make informed decisions. One of the key ways we achieve this is through the systematic collection and analysis of security incident reports across Nigeria, with Daily Trust Newspaper serving as our primary data source.

WHY WE COLLECT SECURITY INCIDENT REPORTS

Our commitment to excellence in security management drives us to monitor, document, and analyze security incidents. A few reasons we gather this data consistently is to identify emerging threats, hotspots, and patterns that may impact our clients. As a trusted security firm, we use this data to provide timely advisories, security briefs, and actionable recommendations tailored to each client’s unique risks. With the help of this data, we use trend analysis to anticipate threats and design proactive security solutions.

SCOPE

The analysis spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), grouped into Nigeria’s six geo-political regions. Incidents are classified under major categories including Kidnapping, Armed Robbery/Theft/Cultism, Accidents, Banditry/Terrorism, Communal Clashes, and Domestic Abuse/Police Brutality/Rape.

METHODOLOGY

The data for this report was collected from secondary sources, specifically the Daily Trust Newspaper (January – June 2025 editions), selected for its nationwide coverage and emphasis on security-related reporting. Reported incidents were reviewed, coded, and entered into a structured database under defined categories, including Kidnapping, Armed Robbery/Theft/Cultism, Accidents, Banditry/Terrorism, Communal Clashes, and Domestic Abuse/Police Brutality/Rape.

After collection, the incidents were aggregated at both state and regional levels to enable micro and macro-level analysis. Quantitative techniques such as frequency counts, percentage distributions, and rankings were applied to measure prevalence. Comparative analysis was also conducted to identify the most and least affected states and regions, while trend analysis was used to highlight emerging security patterns.

The findings were presented using charts, tables, and graphical summaries to ensure clarity and accessibility for decision-making.

LIMITATIONS OF THE ANALYSIS

This report provides useful insights into security incident trends across Nigeria. However, it is important to recognize some limitations.

The analysis relies solely on Daily Trust Newspaper as the data source. This means coverage may focus more on high-profile incidents while smaller or rural cases may be underreported.

Secondly, the data is based on published reports without ground-level verification. As a result, figures may differ from those recorded by security agencies, local authorities, or community monitors.

Third, certain incidents could fall into multiple categories (for example, a kidnapping during a communal clash). For consistency, each case has been placed under one main category, which may simplify complex realities.

Overall, the data should be seen as an indicator of trends rather than a complete record. In future reports, Ciliathec Guards Limited plans to expand sources by including multiple newspapers, official reports, and community intelligence to improve accuracy and reliability.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Total Recorded Incidents: 661
  • Most Prevalent Incident Type: Banditry/Terrorist Activities (179 cases)
  • Most Affected Region: North Central (299 incidents)
  • Least Affected Region: South East (36 incidents)
  • States with Highest Incident Rates: FCT – Abuja (95 incidents), Plateau State (55 incidents) and Benue State (46 incidents)
